Podcast: June 11, 2016

Flood Brothers Disposal presents The Skinny and Houli show and this week we have a Mohammad Ali special segment. Our first guests are brothers Oliver McGarry and Marty McGarry, who joins us by phone. These guys tells us about when they used to train at Coulan’s gym with the late, great Mohammad Ali back in the 60s and 70s. Marty has a great story about Mohammad’s brother, Rahman and both guys have some really great tales about a few of the former heavyweight boxing champions of that time. Oliver owns MacKells Inn on 111 Street so call in for a pint of their award winning Guinness! Our second guest is none other than Mike ‘Pickle’ Joyce who is married to Mohammad Ali’s daughter, Jamillah. He calls in on his way to the funeral and tells us the story about his proposal to Jamillah in Ireland and we hear some more great stories about Ali and his relationship with Ireland. For those of you who didn’t know,  Ali’s great-grandfather came from Ennis, County Clare! Our third guests are Peter Wheeler, Executive Director of the 50th Special Olympics Anniversary and Denis Doolin from Special Olympics International. The guys tell us as much as they can about the big plans for the anniversary in 2018 at Soldier Field, where Special Olympics originally started. “Celebrate the past and look to the future” is their motto and we can’t wait to see what they have in store! Our usual ‘Who Cares?’ and ‘Who Died?’ segments are featured and don’t forget to come to The Skinny and Houli Irish trip (ireland@gofiplomat.com)  information night at The Cork and Kerry Pub on Tuesday 14th June. The guys will be there with special musical guest, Katie Grennan. So come down and have a pint with them! A really great show this week with fantastic guests. Have a listen for yourself!
